Getting started with DLP display technology

At the heart of DLP technology is the digital micromirror device, a chip covered with millions of microscopic mirrors that tilt to reflect light and create precise images.

The DMD is part of a complete DLP chipset, which includes a controller to drive the mirrors and, depending on power requirements, one or more power-management integrated circuits (PMICs) to ensure efficient and stable operation. Together, these components modulate light from the illumination system and project it though optics, delivering vivid, crisp and reliable visuals with high-performance across a wide range of applications.

Choose the right DLP chipset for your project

Selecting the appropriate DLP chipset depends on your project's resolution, brightness and form factor requirements. Whether you are building portable systems, professional displays, or large venue installations, DLP technology offers a range of chipsets designed to balance performance, power and size.

Getting started with development

After selecting a chipset, follow these steps to begin putting your system together:

  • Consider the brightness requirements and trade-offs when designing your display projection.
  • Purchase an evaluation module (EVM) to begin evaluating and testing your design.
  • Pair the EVM with our firmware to diagnose your chipset or resolve any issues.
  • Use our search tool to select the optical module makers and system integrators that best fit your optical module specifications.
